About Kazumi

Kazumi Asamura Hayashi

Born and raised in Tokyo, Kazumi Asamura Hayashi began her career at a fashion event company before moving to New York.
During her eight years there, she worked across fashion, art, and media, launching her career as a creative director, stylist, and editor, focusing primarily on editorial storytelling.
She is currently the creative director and co-founder of The Last Gallery, a curatorial platform based in Tokyo.
With over two decades of experience, Kazumi continues to work internationally across the media and creative industries.

In 2009, she relaunched Libertin DUNE, the new edition of the legendary fashion and culture magazine DUNE first published in 1991, and served as its editor-in-chief.
She oversaw the magazine’s overall creative direction, developing a new editorial language that bridged street culture, art, and luxury fashion.

In 2016, Kazumi launched i-D JAPAN, the Japanese edition of the British magazine i-D, and served as its editorial director.
She led all aspects of creative direction across print, digital, branded content, and social media, establishing a new platform that introduced Japanese youth culture to the world.
In 2020, she founded i-D Asia, a digital platform spotlighting Asian youth culture, and oversaw localized editions in China and South Korea.
Published in English, i-D Asia connected diverse creative voices from across the region with a global audience.

Her editorial visuals have been shaped through long-term collaborations with leading photographers and artists including Nobuyoshi Araki, Miyako Ishiuchi, Daido Moriyama, Hiromix, Takashi Homma, Chikashi Suzuki, Ren Hang, Sandy Kim, Harley Weir, and Petra Collins, as well as numerous actors and musicians.
She has also collaborated with a wide range of brands—from major fashion houses such as Louis Vuitton, Saint Laurent, Chanel, Comme des Garçons, Gucci, Balenciaga, Prada, Valentino, and Dior, to jewelry and lifestyle brands like Tiffany & Co., and global street and sports labels including Stüssy, adidas, Nike, New Balance, and Moncler—creating visuals that range from classic to experimental.

Through The Last Gallery and media-hosted events, Kazumi has curated gatherings that bring together artists deeply connected to her creative community.
Acting as a thoughtful hostess, she creates spaces where diverse expressions intersect, fostering new cultural dialogues.
These encounters and creative exchanges continue to evolve into the foundation of her ongoing practice today.
