Kazumi Asamura Hayashi
She served as editor-in-chief of Libertin DUNE, one of Japan’s most influential independent fashion culture magazines, where she directed numerous editorials that bridged street and luxury fashion. In 2016, she launched the Japanese edition of i-D in both print and digital formats, leading its creative direction across editorial, branded, and social content.
The debut issue, Golden Youth, spotlighted Japan’s Gen Z and reinterpreted their cultural identity through Kazumi’s lens. Notably, she featured only Japanese individuals on the covers—a bold statement in contrast to the industry norm of predominantly white models at the time. In 2018, she released the Female Gaze issue, produced entirely by female creators, highlighting women’s creative voices while subtly challenging the male-dominated structure of Japan’s creative industries.
In 2020, she launched i-D Asia, a digital platform dedicated to Asian youth culture, alongside localized versions in China and South Korea. The platform, presented in English, aimed to amplify Asian perspectives, connect with Gen Z audiences, and promote diversity and inclusion within the global i-D brand.
Today, Kazumi continues to work across fashion, art, and culture, collaborating with brands and artists to produce narratives that are both emotionally resonant and socially relevant.
